KWARA STATE: YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW — PART 3

Yesterday

With this third part, we come to interim end of Kwara State of yesterday. But do not forget that the yesterday of our interest is between 1999-2019, a period of twenty years of the 4th Republic when the dynasty of Saraki constituted the governments of Kwara State: from Governors Lawal, Bukola to Fatah.

Previous Presentations

We have spoken about the huge amount of money that came to Kwara in 20 years and the benefits to Kwara Kwara South which was less than 10%.

We have talked about road constructions during that time and our benefit was about 13%.

We have talked about recruitment into all the services of Kwara State and our benefit was about 15%.

We have talked about the establishment of KWASU which for ten years of the people of yesterday, the Southern Campus was never inaugurated.

We have talked about the huge amount of money that accrued to our 7LGAs and yet there was no corresponding developments.

We talked about election manipulations that gave our people Chairmen and Councilors that never work for us.

This 3rd Part

Today we shall talk about money borrowed by the people of yesterday and the benefits the people of Kwara South derived from the borrowing power of government and the implications for our people.

Money Borrowed

The total money borrowed by the governments of yesterday from the available record is about N54b. This includes bond, a GTB facility, salary bailout, CACs, Federal debt re-restructuring, anchor Borrowers, ECA, LGA facility and SUBEB/UBEC alleged borrowing.

Seventeen Billion Naira

In year 2009 for example, the government of Dr Bukola Saraki raised a bond of N17b for the following projects:

Kwara state Trailer Plaza — N2bn

Asa Dam Mixed Use Development Project — N2bn

Aviation College — N1.500bn

New Secretariat — N1bn

Diagnostic Center — N750m

Agricultural Irrigation Support Project — N1bn

Ilorin Water Distribution Project — N2bn

Kwara State University — N1.500bn

Loan refinancing — N2.560bn

Cost and Commission — N1.190bn

TOTAL = N17bn

Analysis

On the ground we see Diagnostic Medical Centre, International Aviation College and Kwara State University, where are the other five projects for which the bond was taken?

Secondly, of the sum of 17b Naira not one kobo was spent on the soil of Kwara South.

Is Kwara South not part of this state?

Can anybody try this in any other state except Kwara State?

From Otooge to Otunya

If Kwara State must move back to Otunya, let there be explanations about the regimes of yesterday.

From the state statutory allocation IGR, and money borrowed for the development of the state, what accrued to us is less than 12%.

Before we shall go back to Egypt or go back to our vomit, we need explanations.

As 2027 is approaching, let’s shine our eyes.
